FINAL DAYS: A Plan for Mankind. A Fight for Survival, by R J Deuel
We’ve all been living on a wafer-thin crust of the present, heeding only to our immediate needs with little consideration for the future. But the climate is changing as the super-storms of recent years have shown. It’s 2059, and a frozen world starves under the cold gaze of GlobeX, a supercomputer, and its master, who controls a dying world. When a planet-killing asteroid the size of our moon appears, reporter Ryan Adams suspects the extinction-event is a high-tech smokescreen. Uncovering a heinous scheme to cull the population, Ryan and friends must outrun rogue the agents, who are hunting them, and broadcast the truth before the false apocalypse claims anymore lives. Can they stop the worldwide chaos before time runs out?
Much of the enjoyment of this story comes from the cinematic scenes that ground the reader inside the story. You’ll love the heroes and hate the villains, and maybe even have some sympathy for the computer at the end. And the Irish setter, Einstein, is a real charmer.
